In response to a need expressed by members of our Orthodox Christian community, International Orthodox Christian Charities, Inc. (IOCC) was established in March 1992 as the official international humanitarian organization of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA).

In seeking to provide assistance to the poor, either in response to emergencies or long term socio-economic development needs, IOCC's fundamental policy is to develop a sustainable indigenous capacity to carry out such programs. All programs are guided by the two goals of program integrity and the highest standards of stewardship to donors.

For more information, please visit their web site at www.iocc.org.

Assemble a "Gift of the Heart" Health Kit to Help Victims of the Tsunami Disaster

Put together a small assistance package and make a big difference. Basic materials such as soap, toothpaste, band-aids, paper, pencils, and diapers seem small, but make a huge difference in an ongoing development program or when disaster strikes.

Our Health and school kits are among the items most requested by our overseas partners each year. The need is great, and we can never have too many on hand.

Please carefully follow the instructions below:

  1. Buy a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure and fill it with the following items:
    • One hand towel
    • One washcloth
    • One comb
    • One metal nail file or nail clipper
    • One bar of soap (bath size)
    • One toothbrush
    • One tube of toothpaste (4-7 ounces)
    • Six Band-Aids
  2. Secure the bag and pack it in a box. Secure the box with packing tape.
  3. Clearly mark the outside of the box with the words "Health Kit", apply the correct amount of postage and mail the box to the following address:

IOCC World Church Service
Brethren Service Center Annex
601 Main St.
PO Box 188
New Windsor, MD. 21776-0188

Be sure to include the name of the parish, group or individual sending the kits on the box.
